Online Risk Assessment
What is the VFRM driver profile?
The Driver Profile is part of the award winning Virtual Fleet Risk Manager
The Driver Profile has been in development since the mid-1990s, through research and practical experience in the UK, Europe, Australia and the USA. The initial product development research, trials and user evaluations were undertaken by the University of Huddersfield in the UK. More recent studies undertaken by Napier University in Scotland, based on 8,000, 16,000 and 26,000 drivers, have been used to develop the latest version.
The Driver Profile is designed to collect data based on a driver’s exposure and experience. It is none threatening to employees - aiming to capture and understand their level of exposure to risks on the road and to help target an appropriate risk reduction program. A range of organisations are successfully using the Driver Profile in several European languages (including French, Flemish, Dutch, Spanish, American Spanish, Italian and German) as well as in Australia, the USA and South Africa.

Driver Profile evaluation data
We have recently compared the Driver Profile outcomes from 26,000 drivers against their crash history.
The findings are summarised in the table and graph below, which show a strong relationship between crashes and the personal exposure indicators included in the Driver Profile. Of the 26,000 drivers, 10% were identified as being At Risk on the Driver Profile. They averaged 0.32 crashes over the previous 3 years, whereas the 48% of drivers identified as Low Risk on ‘exposure’ averaged only 0.2 crashes during the same period.
